Legacy

Peter Knowland’s legacy

Founded by prominent acoustician and pioneer Peter Knowland, PKA began in 1968. Early in his career Peter spent two years on the design stages of the Sydney Opera House, assisting Dr V.L. Jordan with acoustic model testing and materials research.

He went on to shape the acoustics of performance spaces including the Queensland Cultural Centre Concert Hall, the Newcastle Conservatorium Performance Hall, the Dame Joan Sutherland Hall in Penrith and the Aotea Centre in Auckland, which received an Excellence in Acoustics Award.

Peter also lectured in acoustics for more than 15 years at the NSW Institute of Technology (now UTS) School of Architecture, and at UNSW and the University of Sydney. That practical, hands-on approach to acoustic design continues in the PKA team today.
