Architectural Acoustic Advice

Acoustic design advice for walls, floors, façades and building services, coordinated with your architect and design team from concept to construction.

Acoustic Design Built into the Architecture

Good acoustics start with the design of the building itself. We work with architects and design teams to make sure walls, floors, façades and building services deliver the acoustic outcome the project needs, in a way that is practical to build.

Walls, Floors and Façades

We advise on airborne and impact ratings for walls and floor-ceiling constructions, façade sound insulation against road, rail, aircraft and industrial noise, and noise from lifts, hydraulic services and mechanical plant. We review the systems preferred by the design team and provide details for design changes where needed.

Efficient Façade Design

The easiest way to meet an internal noise target is to fix the walls and ceilings and simply upgrade the windows. We do not take the easy way. We calculate the requirements for each room, varying all façade elements to find the most efficient way to build, which can significantly reduce costs where many rooms are affected.

The Building Code of Australia sets only a minimum acoustic standard. PKA helped develop the AAAC Star Rating with the Association of Australasian Acoustical Consultants, which gives buyers an easy way to understand the acoustic quality of a building.
