Retrofit Acoustic Upgrades

Practical acoustic upgrades for existing buildings, designed to work with the structure you have, keep disruption to occupants low and avoid unnecessary demolition.

Acoustic Upgrades for Existing Buildings

Upgrading the acoustics of an existing building is a different task to specifying noise controls for a new one. We design upgrades that work with the existing structure and building elements, keep disruption to occupants to a minimum and avoid unnecessary demolition.

Where Retrofit Upgrades Help

We regularly advise on upgrades to dividing walls and floors between apartments, noise from hydraulic services and mechanical plant, and façade upgrades against road, rail and aircraft noise. We also work on adaptive reuse projects, where an existing building is converted to a new use, such as religious, hospital and boarding house buildings converted to residences or aged care.

Solutions That Meet the Intent

Rather than simply selecting an off-the-shelf or deemed-to-satisfy design that needs major and costly rework, we design solutions that effectively comply with the intent of the Building Code of Australia and any other requirements. Where heritage fabric is to be retained, we coordinate the acoustic design around it.

Recent examples include the conversion of the Eastern Suburbs Motel at Edgecliff into the EAST apartments, and the conversion of a boarding house at Neutral Bay into the Lansdowne Gardens aged care facility.
